Craig Gonzalez - Impromptu Mix #6 “Dusty Sleeves”

3 09 2008

Here is #6 in my Impromptu series of mixes. This one is going to require a bit of a story, though. About a year and a half ago, I had my basement waterproofed, but the company did a crappy job and didn’t cover up my stuff in the basement when they jackhammered through some concrete. Resulting in a ton of cement dust on top of my record collection as well as everything else in the basement. To make a long story short, they need to come back and do more work, so I’ve been slowly but surely digging out the records and cleaning them off to make them playable.

This mix is from a handful of records I was going through one evening in late August and decided to make a mix with them. I strayed from the deep dubby stuff for this one as well. It’s a little scatter brained, I think, but I was able to dig up some old favorites of mine.

It should also be mentioned that this mix was done using 100% vinyl. I did switch to Serato a couple years ago, but I did this one using nothing but the wax I pulled out from the archives.

So, here’s the mix. Tracklist below

Craig Gonzalez Impromptu Mix #4 and 5

24 06 2008

I finally got around to converting my Impromptu Mix #4 to MP3 last night as well as making and uploading Impromptu Mix #5.

Impromptu Mix #4 - Hip Hop Instrumentals

Mix #4 in the series is basically me playing some of my favorite hip hop instrumentals. I actually made it a couple months ago, but didn’t get around to upload it until just now. To make things clear, I am not a “hip hop DJ” by any stretch of the imagination, but I do like to buy it and I used to play a lot of these cuts among all kinds of other music out when doing gigs at places like the Buddha Lounge with Michael Geiger. I don’t scratch and I just try to mix them like I normally would with electronic music. It was actually a learning experience once I went back and listened to it, though.

Impromptu Mix #5 - More of the Deep

I made Mix #5 last night. It contains more of the deep dubby stuff like previous mixes. However, this time I didn’t stay strictly in the dubby side of things, but tried to play some other kinds of records as well. Especially the last two tracks in which I’ve always wanted to put on a mix, but never got around to it until now.

Here’s a tracklist as well…

Carl Craig - The Climax (Basic Reshape)

Urban Force - Untitled 2 (Mike Huckaby Remix)
Marko Furstenberg - Without You (Original Mix)
Neurotron - System 2 (Original Mix)
Harrison Fnord - Dub Girl
Surphase & Rktic - Elbwarts
Mikkel Metal - Stand Guard
Havantepe - Feeling You
Organon - Spatium
Marko Furstenberg - Rennes Le Chateuax (Original Mix)

Craig Gonzalez - Live at Bandwidth 03.21.08 Mix

19 04 2008

Here’s my mix from Bandwidth on March 21st. It’s got a bunch of dubby/laid back jams on it. I’ll admit it’s not the best mix, but it has it’s moments.

Craig Gonzalez - Live at Bandwidth 03.21.08

I also have Impromptu Mix 4 down the pipe as well. I made a mix of all hip hop instrumentals a few weeks back, but haven’t had the chance to edit the volume level of it yet.

Craig Gonzalez Impromptu Mix #3

Craig Gonzalez Impromptu 3

Here’s a new impromptu mix that I recorded last night. This one is a lot like the last one with the dubby, droning techno, but hey, that’s the kind of stuff I really enjoy playing. It’s a lot of fun to me and I don’t quite understand why more DJ’s play this kind of stuff.

Anyway, this is a pretty no frills kind of mix. I let the tracks play as long as I could while giving myself enough time to get in and out of the tracks properly. No effects were used or external processor. This was done on a pair of Technics, a Vestax PMC-50, and Serato since I did turn to the dark side about a year ago.

Craig Gonzalez Impromptu Mix #2

14 10 2007

I was hanging out at the house on Friday night listening to records while having a couple cold guys when I decided to record another impromptu mix. So, i did. Obviously, it’s not a technical masterpiece and it basically is what it is, but I think it has some good dub/minimal techno that you can just pop in the CD player and let play for awhile.

So, check it out if you wish..

Updates, updates, updates

31 08 2007

Sorry, it’s been quite a while since I’ve written on here. It’s been a pretty hectic couple of months, so I’ll just get right to it…

First things first, I went to Orlando for the NCAA Community Day and it was a blast. It was my first time ever at EA Tiburon studios and it was pretty cool. I mean, it’s just a big office, but it was still cool to see where the football games are actually made. Instead of going over the game in depth, I will just point everyone to all the blogs I wrote and the podcast I was interviewed for on my ConsoleSports.net site HERE .

About a month later, my cousin, Scott, was flown out to LA to attend a Madden/NCAA event, but they didn’t end up showing Madde. So, they ended up going to the ESPY’s instead. They went to the pre-party, the awards show, and the after party and lived it up like rock stars for a night. It sounded like a good time and I was a little bent that I couldn’t go live it up out there. Even though it was a great time for everyone, there was no content to post about Madden, so there were no updates on the site about it. Scott did end up going to Orlando to actually go see and play Madden in July, though, and you can read all about his trip HERE.

At the end of July, I was flown out to Vancouver to go check out NHL 08. While the actual day of the event was awesome, my traveling to and from was straight shit and an experience I will never forget. It included cancelled flights, lost luggage, and me pretty much boozing it up at the various airports I was in. But I did get to get on the ice with Nashville Predators defensemen Shea Weber and got to meet all the producers of the game. You can read all about that on ConsoleSports.net HERE .

Scott and I did our very first ConsoleSports.net podcast a couple weeks ago which you can check out on the site as well as we took part in a conference call with some of the designers and producers of NHL 2K8 yesterday. You can check out the two parts of the entire conference call HERE.

And that about does it for the quick updates. I will try and start updating the place a little more when I get a little more free time.

EA’s NCAA ‘08 Community Day at EA Tiburon Studios in Orlando, FL. June 11th-13th

2 06 2007

As a few of you guys know, I run a sports gaming website called ConsoleSports.net. I’ve been running it along with my cousin for the last 3 or so years. Well, this year we got the invite to go down to Orlando, FL and hang out at EA Tiburon Studios to hang out and our hands on and play NCAA ‘08 while we’re down there. We will also be able to talk to some producers/develpers of the game down there as well. It’s a rather big deal for the site and I figured I would let you guys know about it. Anyway, here’s a link to article on ConsoleSports.net about it.

Craig Gonzalez Live at Bandwidth 05.18.07 Mix

25 05 2007

I just uploaded my set from Bandwidth on May 18th. The first 20 minutes are pretty solid, but then I feel I had some programming issues. I did just buy a bunch of tracks earlier that day and didn’t really have much time to practice with them. That’s how it goes sometimes. However, I decided to upload it anyway.

SportsInferno.com redesigned

8 04 2007

I had the opportunity to overhaul the website of Sports Inferno radio hosts, Mike Valenti and Terry Fosters, website SportsInferno.com.  I redsigned the look of the front page and then made the forums section of the site to make it match the front page.  The reason why I like to mention it is because the front page and the forums are two completely different web apps with no relation to each other whatsoever.  I think the functionality of the site has improved and the members seem to like it.  So, check it out SportsInferno.com
